Feral Cats
Feral cats deserve to live
and enjoy life like any pet cat. In fact, too
many of Chattanooga’s feral cats are abandoned
pets or their descendants. Your help can improve
the quality of their lives and at the same time
enrich your own.
TNR
(Trap-Neuter-Return)
Chattanooga is home to thousands of
"feral" cats who often live in social groups
called colonies. These colonies can be found in
or near warehouses, apartment complexes, parks,
wooded areas and almost anyplace where food
and shelter are available. Small colonies may
contain just a few cats while larger colonies
can easily include more than 30 cats. Feral cats
are not tame and are usually quite wary of
people.
Cats are prolific breeders and
colonies can grow rapidly, increasing 10-fold in
just a few years when sufficient food is
available. A humane method of limiting the
uncontrolled growth of colonies is TNR. Using
this method, cats are humanely trapped, spayed
or neutered, vaccinated and then returned to
their outdoor home. After spay/neuter surgery
the cats are healthier, quieter, roam and fight less and their numbers stop growing.

Helping Feral Cats
Wally's Friends has already spayed and neutered
over 1000 feral cats. We support colony
caretakers and trappers with low-cost
spay/neuter surgeries and feral cats in traps are the
only animals we welcome without appointments.
